Dave Billows is a highly regarded sports scientist who has held a number of senior positions within club and international football, including the England National Team Sports Scientist and Head of Sports Science / Performance at Everton, Newcastle and Real Sociedad. Dave has consistently supported the progression and performance of his players through advanced training techniques, bespoke physical development and rehabilitation programmes, and expert nutritional guidance.

Dave has a proven track record in the game, providing a positive and forward thinking influence to a backroom staff as well as composed and engaging leadership when making critical decisions in high pressure environments.

Key Achievements

  • Part of the Everton backroom staff that oversaw one of the most successful periods in the club’s history - with the team qualifying for the Champions League in 2005; reaching the FA Cup final in 2009; and qualifying for the Europa League four times
  • Heavily involved in Everton’s youth development programme that produced players including Wayne Rooney, Ross Barkley, John Stones, Jack Rodwell and Victor Anichebe
  • Prozone statistics showed that the Everton squad developed season on season to both run faster and further, and suffered fewer soft tissue injuries
  • Headed the development of a workload accumulation system at Everton, utilising GPS and HR data from training sessions coupled with Prozone stats from games to assess the likelihood of injury or performance reduction in individual players
  • Implemented new philosophies and methodologies of training practice at Everton, Newcastle, Real Sociedad and Hibernian, improving performance criteria and minimising the probability and incidence of injury
  • Defined phases of development and created a long term plan of action to aid and enhance the physical and physiological improvement and development of academy players of all ages at Everton
