  • Won the 1997 LMA Manager of the Year award after leading Barnsley to promotion to the Premier League
  • Won automatic promotion and returned Hartlepool to League One in 2006/07
  • Won the 2002/03 Football League Trophy with Bristol City
  • Finished third in the 2011/12 season with Sheffield United before reaching the play-off final against Huddersfield Town
  • Guided Swindon to the 2009/10 League One play-off final at Wembley Stadium

  • Achieved a winning percentage of 47.35% in four years at Bristol City and 51.89% at Sheffield United in two years
  • Reached the quarter-finals of the 1996/97 FA Cup with Barnsley after knocking out Manchester United in the fifth round
  • Saved Swindon in 2008/09 and MK Dons in 2004/05 from the brink of relegation after being appointed in December
  • Led Sheffield Wednesday to a 12th place Premier League finish in 1998/99 after finishing 16th in the season before arriving
  • Led Sheffield United to a 19 game unbeaten streak in all competitions in 2012/13
